Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu today said innovation should become a people’s movement. Speaking at the ceremony of announcing the results of Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements, 2020, Mr Naidu said innovation is the need of the hour.
He said there should be concerted efforts to inculcate the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among students to make them out of the box thinkers. He said innovation has always been the key defining feature of human progress.
The Vice President stated that India has its own illustrious history of innovations spanning at least 20 centuries right from the invention of zero and decimal system. He said India was known as Vishwa Guru. Mr Naidu stressed on retaining this intellectual leadership and said India must once again emerge as the global hub of learning and innovation.
In the ARIIA 2020 rankings, IIT Madras again claimed the top spot for best centrally funded institution followed by IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi. In the category of private institutions, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Odisha has emerged as the winner.
KIIT is followed by SRM Institute of Science and Technology and Vellore Institute of Technology. College of Engineering Pune, Maharashtra has topped the list for State-Funded Autonomous Institutions.
For the first time, ARIIA 2020 rankings had a special prize category for women-only higher educational institutions. The results of the rankings have been evaluated based on seven parameters. These include budget and funding support, infrastructure and facilities, awareness, promotions, and support for idea generation and innovation.
